Prof. Vives
Named to Econometric Society Council
IESE faculty member Xavier Vives has been named
to the council of the Econometric Society, one
of the world’s most prestigious economics associations.
The council comprises 30 members, who come from all over the world.
Prof. Vives was selected to be a society Fellow
in 1992, and said that he feels “very honored” to
be selected to serve on the organization’s council.
Founded in 1930, the society’s activities
center on four areas: publication of the scientific journal Econometrica;
the publication of a series of monographs in collaboration with
Cambridge University Press; the organization of scientific meetings,
including an international conference held every five years; and
the election of new Fellows.
Prof. Vives joined IESE’s faculty last year.
He specializes in industrial organization, microeconomics, game
theory, the economy of information, banking and financial markets.
He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley and
has taught at Harvard, Berkeley, the University of Pennsylvania
and the University of New York, among other institutions. In addition,
he has worked as a consultant for the World Bank and the European
Commission.
In March, Prof. Vives led a special workshop in conjunction with
the school's Public Sector-Private Sector Research Center titled
"Industrial Organization of the Media Industry." The
event focused on the transition from analog to digital TV, models
of the media industry as two-sided markets, and public service
broadcasting. |
