Interview with
Eduardo Montes (PADE-II-89)
Enthusiasm Leads to Success
Speaking from his former office at the Siemens
headquarters in Madrid, Eduardo Montes made room in his busy schedule
for IESE Alumni Magazine, just before moving to Munich to take
up his new role as Senior Vice-President of the Board and President
of the Telecommunications Division of Siemens AG.
Eduardo Montes, one of Spain’s most successful
executives, is changing both offices and responsibilities. Still,
he will remain as president of the Siemens S.A. board of directors
while facing the greatest challenge of his professional career.
Until May, he led a business group of enormous
complexity between its different divisions and companies in which
it owns shares, with turnover of over 2.7 billion euros as one
of Siemens’s main subsidiaries, and with 5,000 employees.
His associates acknowledge the leaps and bounds
the company has made under his leadership. In 1994, Montes was
appointed as CEO of Siemens Spain and in 1999 he became the head
of the group in Spain after a successful career in the telecommunications
sector. He started his travels along this road as an intern at
Siemens, and he went on to work in a variety of multinationals
in Spain, including P.A. Technology, ITT, CDTI, Alcatel and GEC
Alsthom. Now, he has become the first Spaniard to join the board
of the German multinational.
