The EMBA at the Barcelona Campus
IESE’s EMBA program now running in Barcelona and Madrid

On Jan. 14, IESE launched the first class of the Executive MBA program at the school’s Barcelona campus. The Executive MBA has been running at the Madrid campus for 25 years. The 19 month-long part-time program is offered in a weekly format with five intensive weeks, one of which takes place at CEIBS in Shanghai. The Executive MBA is a bilingual program and makes intense use of the case method.

IESE launched the Barcelona edition of the Executive MBA in response to growing local demand. “The program’s welcome has been overwhelmingly positive and it completes our portfolio of programs,” said Elena Liquete, director of the EMBA in Barcelona.

According to Mónica Massó, a brand manager at Nestlé, “the launch of the Executive MBA at IESE’s Barcelona campus was wonderful news to me as I have been unable to attend a course of this kind outside Barcelona for many years, due to work and family commitments.”

Profile of the Executive MBA student

The program is aimed at executives with more than five years’ work experience, a university degree and a high level of English. “The Executive MBA is ideal for executives looking for a program that fits round their career and their personal lives,” said Liquete.

One participant who fits this profile is Gabriel Masfurroll, assistant manager of USP Hospitales, a group of 41 private clinics across Spain. “IESE’s Executive MBA gives me the chance to study a management program at one of the best business schools in the world,” said Masfurroll. “The fact that the program is run in my home city of Barcelona makes it an irresistible opportunity. Sharing knowledge and experience with such distinguished students and faculty will help develop my awareness of the latest in business management thinking.”

The program aims to develop students’ management skills; provide an international focus on business; to promote responsible leadership - in line with the school’s ethical emphasis on business - and to develop the entrepreneurial spirit. As a result, the Executive MBA is underpinned by three core principles: a comprehensive review of all management disciplines; rigorous content with a strong emphasis on the practical aspects of management and a clear vision of the senior manager’s responsibilities to the team.

“The Executive MBA is a personal and professional challenge which should enable me to take a significant leap forward in my career, while also affording me the opportunity to refresh my knowledge and take a critical look at my experience base,” Massó said.
