Economic Forecast

Prof. Pedro Videla gave his outlook for the global economy at a session for IESE alumni in Warsaw on Feb. 21. The session titled “International Economic Outlook” formed part of UniCredit’s Investor Inspirations 2008 series of talks which provides prognosis for the world economy and analyzes current economic and social thinking.

Changing Lanes

Mike Rosenberg offered some frameworks for alumni considering a change of career direction in a session entitled “How to Manage your Career (Quite) a Few Years After the MBA” in Paris on Nov. 19. Rosenberg shared knowledge acquired from his earlier professional experience at a large executive search firm as well as from counseling students, alumni and friends. Return on Investments

One of Europe’s financial centers, Frankfurt, was the location for a session entitled, “Investing in the Long Term: Techniques and Outlook” led by IESE Prof. Javier Estrada. The session focused on a very simple model that successfully predicts long-term market returns. As well as discussing the model, Prof. Estrada illustrated its use to forecast the performance of some stock markets over the next ten years.

 Design or Chance?

IESE alumni and friends gathered at the World Trade Center in Almere, The Netherlands, on Jan. 24 to listen to Prof. Cassiman’s session on “Scoping New Game Strategies.“ The professor examined whether companies such as DeBeers, Wal-mart or Ryanair could attribute their success and dominance of a sector to good strategic management or plain old luck.
