IESE Launches SEP-Miami

INAUGURAL SENIOR EXECUTIVE PROGRAM - MIAMI TO BEGIN IN OCTOBER

October will see the launch of the Senior Executive Program - Miami (SEP -Miami), a new management program aimed at senior executives with specific interests in Latin America. SEP-Miami will strengthen IESE’s position in the Americas following the opening last year of its New York office.

SEP-Miami is aimed at CEOs or company owners, either already operating in Latin America or interested in entering the region, with 15 years’ experience. But this is not essential for admission to this general management program.

“The program is not just about Latin America. The fundamental aim is to provide participants with the essential tools to help them make better decisions,” Prof. Javier Estrada said. The program aims to provide senior executives with “take-home agendas” and action plans for themselves and their companies, said Prof. Pedro Videla, joint academic director of the program.

The program will allow managers to challenge their assumptions through in-depth classroom discussions of a range of Latin American companies’ best practices, as well as cases from other geographies. “We’ve designed it to be useful for any business leader interested in emerging markets in general and in Latin America in particular,” Prof. Estrada said.

Miami: the gateway to Latin America

The program consists of four one-week residential modules over a six-month period, with a number of distance-learning modules via the Virtual Campus. Each participant will have an IESE faculty member as coach. Three of the residential modules will be held in Miami with the fourth at IESE’s Madrid campus.

“Miami is the nerve center for business with Latin America,” Prof. Videla noted, making it the perfect host for the program. Program co–director Prof. Estrada pointed out that many European companies have decision-making centers in Miami or interests in the region. “And this program could be very useful for their executives,” the financial management professor said.

Not all SEP-Miami participants will be from European companies, though. Members of the class will be selected to ensure diversity of companies, sectors and cultural backgrounds.

In addition, the program’s inaugural class is likely to include a range of members from across the Americas. IESE has leveraged its competitive advantage by offering SEP-Miami in conjunction with two of its associate business schools in Latin America: IPADE in Mexico and IAE in Argentina.

“Participants will gain insights from classmates living in Latin America with first-hand knowledge of the challenges encountered by companies investing in the region,” Prof. Videla said

As with all IESE’s international programs, SEP-Miami will be in English. The program will cover management basics such as financial accounting and marketing, as well as “macro” themes such as emerging markets, leadership and globalization.

SEP-Miami further extends IESE's range of executive programs which is offered on four continents: Europe (Spain, Germany and Poland), Asia (in conjunction with CEIBS in China and India), Africa (Egypt and Kenya) and the Americas (São Paulo, New York, and now Miami).
