"The expansion reflects a growing interest among companies for compact
executive education programs with an international focus, as well as IESE's
commitment to the international joint venture approach", said Stein
Jacobsen, director of international corporate relations at IESE. The programs
are held in collaboration with several other institutions: Harvard Business
School, the University of Michigan, Stanford University, the China-Europe
International Business School (CEIBS) and Instituto de Altos Estudios Empresariales
(IAE).
"Overall, almost 200 participants from over 30 countries were drawn
to the programs in 1996. The compact time frame between one and two
weeks along with highly relevant content and innovative teaching methods
appealed to many of the participating companies", Jacobsen said. Both
programs piloted in 1996 Strategic Management of Technology-based Companies
(SMTC) and Global Program for Management Development-China (GPMD) attracted
a diverse mix of executives and managers and were given high marks for quality
and relevance by the participants.
SMTC is unique in that it offers managers the first-ever compact general
management program specifically designed for technology intensive companies.
Last year's participants came from a variety of sectors including electronics,
telecommunications and pharmaceuticals.
Debuting this year will be Achieving Breakthrough Service-Latin America,
which builds upon the ABS program held in Mont Pelerin, Switzerland, with
a focus on Latin American markets.
