in CD format
The Prize was collected on behalf of professor Nueno by the Spanish Ambassador
in China, Juan Leña, at the ceremony held on April 22 in the Friendship
Hotel (Shanghai). The article discussed a series of measures to gradually
open up the economy, facilitate foreign investment and avoid speculation.
Professor Pedro Nueno regularly publishes articles on economic and business
subjects in the Chinese press. As Member of the Council and President of
the China Europe International Business School's (CEIBS) Academic Council,
he has dedicated a significant part of his time to that country in recent
years. The CEIBS is China's only international business management school,
one of the most important in Asia according to Business Week, and the European
Union's most important project in China.
IESE is one of the international schools that is most involved in the
CEIBS. Recently, the following professors have given sessions in programs
organized by the CEIBS in Shanghai: Eduard Ballarín, Josep Faus,
Santiago Alvarez de Mon, José Luis Nueno, Pedro Nueno, Jaume Ribera,
Ricardo Rees, Josep Riverola and Alfredo Pastor. IESE also runs a MBA student
exchange program with the CEIBS. During the academic year 1996/1997, two
IESE students spent a term in Shanghai. This number will double in the academic
year 1997/1998. Through these experiences, IESE is building a strong knowledge
base on the powerful Asian markets.
Profesor Brian Subirana
develops the first case in CD format
The world is undergoing an information revolution. The advent of new
communication and information technologies has enabled a myriad of applications
that were not possible a few years ago: multimedia CD-ROMs, electronic purchasing
over the internet, selective news services, email, etc. Profesor Brian Subirana
has been exploring how these technologies can be used to improve the case
method. He is also researching how these developments may affect business
education. During 1996 Profesor Brian Subirana developed a CD-ROM case,
Readers InnTeractive, an interactive version of SI-93 Readers Inn. The case
analyzes the impact of the Internet on the bookstore distribution industry
and includes multiple novel interactive features. The case has a list of
Internet bookstore addresses which can be perused on the same CD-ROM. This
is important because it provides a static view of the Internet during the
summer of 1996, when the bookstore pages were downloaded. If the reader
has a working Internet connection, the case permits linking to the current
pages. Newspaper articles and internet links are also included and provide
an unlimited amount of information. The case also contains spreadsheets
with various net present value analysis and industry data. One of the most
innovative aspects of the case is a communications gallery which enables
the reader to participate in electronic forums.
