According to Juan Roure, IESE professor and co-director of the Program, the idea of the alliance between IESE and Stanford University to offer thisunique program in Europe Strategic Management of Technology-based Companies(SMTC) came &laqno;when I was teaching as guest professor at the Program. We detected an excellent cooperation opportunity because the prestige andexperience that Stanford has acquired during the 25 years plus it has beenoffering this Program for technology-based companies complemented perfectlyIESE's internationalism and knowledge of the European market.»

The reason for organizing a program targeting specifically companieswith a high technology content is because of the unique challenges thatsuch organizations face, operating as they do in a highly changeable environmentwhere the development of competitive advantages is becoming increasinglydecisive. The working methodology is markedly dynamic and interactive andis composed primarily of case discussions, debates, simulations and activitiesin small working parties.

Executives from more than ten different countries took part in last year'sProgram, including Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, USA, Finland, Spain andHolland. Among others, some of the participant companies were Philips,Sulzer Infra Lab., Telefónica, B. Braun Melsungen, Compunet, Izasa,Instrumentation Laboratory and Boehringer Ingelheim. The participantscame out highly satisfied from the Program. They agreed that it had beenenormously useful to them because its eminently practical approach had enabledthem to identify many points for improvement in their own companies andthe means of managing their implementation.
