International Senior Executive Programs

Taking the Lead in Executive Education
Around the Globe

With a new director at the helm and an expanding portfolio of course offerings, IESE´s international senior executive programs (ISEP) are growing to meet the needs of high level executives around the globe

By the end of 1997, more than 100 key corporate leaders will have participated this year in IESE´s unique joint venture programs, which are held in conjunction with other leading business schools: Harvard University, Stanford University, the University of Michigan, CEIBS in China and AIE Argentina.

"It is clear that we are one of the elite in terms of our executive education programs", says Rory Simpson, the department´s new director. Simpson, an IESE graduate, came to the department in August from Disneyland in Paris where he was a strategic analyst. His goal at IESE is to continue to develop the school´s range of executive programs into a "world force".

Simpson takes over from Stein Jacobsen, also an IESE alumnus, who launched the department almost six years ago. Since the ISEP department´s inception, over 400 managers and executives have passed through the department´s "doors". Varying from one to two weeks in duration, ISEP programs take place yearly at carefully-selected sites around the world. Simpson observes that IESE´s alliances with others of the world´s most prestigious business institutions have played a pivotal role in the department´s success. They will continue to do so in the future. "The U.S. institutions provide expertise from the American perspective, while IESE brings the European approach and experience to the table", he said.

Two ISEP programs have convened recently, each drawing a diverse group of participants. The IESE/Harvard University-led Achieving Breakthrough Service-Europe, held on June 22-27 at Lake Geneva, Switzerland drew participants from about 15 countries, representing companies such as Nokia Telecommunications, ABB Worldwide, Intel Semiconductor, and BMW Financial Services. Global Program for Management Development-Europe, a general management program held with the University of Michigan, June 29 - July 11 in Barcelona included executives and managers from such companies as AT&T, BASF, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Dow Corning, Electrolux, Eli Lilly, ICI Polyurethanes and Polaroid. Approximately 15 countries were represented at GPMD.

Next on the ISEP agenda is the IESE/Stanford University program, "Strategic Management of Technology-based Companies", a two-week management program for technology-intensive businesses, slated for November 23 - December 5 in Barcelona. Places in the program are still available. "It is the only program of its kind available to executives today", Simpson says.
