"I enjoyed having the combined perspectives of these excellent faculty members. The mix of strategy, global economics and organizational elements was well-balanced. "
Jane Crosby, Division General Manager, ICI, United States

"I reviewed the outline of all the sessions presented and found that over 80% was directly applicable to what I am currently doing or will be doing. As I was reviewing some of the materials, I found myself pulling ideas, models and learning from various sessions and creating a new business idea or a new "change" model...
I am confident that the knowledge I gained from IESE will continue to assist me."
Sylvia Dolena, Project Manager, Hewlett Packard, United States

"I experienced some of my best management classes in SMTC. The team atmosphere among all persons in the program was outstanding and this was due, among other things, to the interactive power of the faculty."
Javier Anta, General Manager, BP Solar, Spain

"I think this is the best of two worlds in terms of the global learning experience. it was a great learning experience amongst excellent partners."
Bert Griesel, Group General Manager Human Resources, ABSA Bank, South Africa.

"Excellent faculty, complementing very well (their) style and experience."
Cristiano Burmeister, Director, BASF, Brazil

"I think this joint venture between a US and European university is very helpful because otherwise American participants would not fly over the ocean and I wouldn't like to miss them."
Werner Anderegg, VP for Human Resources, Sulzer Wintec, Switzerland

"Wide-ranging, informed, flexible and fun."
Martin Baumann, Marketing Manager, Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift, Germany

International Senior
Executive Programs

I
n February, Rory Simpson, director of international senior executive programs, delivered presentations to executives
in South Africa with Paddy Miller, professor of IESE's program with the University of Michigan, the Global Program for Management Development. Rory Simpson and Paddy Miller's presentation was highlighted via satellite to 30 ABSA Bank links around the country.

In South Africa, a nation whose companies are increasingly interested in globalization, the level of knowledge about top-ranked executive education programs is notably high.

The purpose of the trip was to introduce South African management to IESE's portfolio of executive programs and increase general awareness of IESE. Managers there expressed particular interest in the GPMD program in South Africa, as well as IESE's newest program with MIT Sloan School of Management: Management in the Information Age.

Key Account Companies

During the South African trip, Simpson also met with senior management from Sasol, Gencor and First National Bank in Johannesburg; Woolworth's, Old Mutual and Safmarine in Capetown: and Unilever and Toyota in Durban.

ABSA Bank is one of the ISEP department's key accounts, having sponsored four participants in GPMD since the program's inception in 1993. The objective of key accounts, a new feature within the Department, is to foster long-lasting relationships between the ISEP Department and its corporate clients. Companies that have demonstrated a strong interest in ISEP through participant sponsor-ship are designated key accounts and receive special benefits, including the IESE newsletter "Scope" and other IESE International Economic Overview publications.

When participants leave IESE executive programs, they often leave behind important relation-ships they have formed with both faculty members and other participants. To keep communication alive, participants in some programs have even formed their own "Alumni" networks. The key account concept ensures that companies who have invested in IESE programs keep in touch with the institution.

Management in the
Information Age

"We are entering an era of organizational change as profound and as pervasive as that caused by the Industrial Revolution. Just as in that time, the survivors will be the companies that invent and embrace the entirely new possibilities brought on by technological, social, and economic change."
Lester C. Thurow, Professor of Management and Economics, MIT Sloan School of Management

M
IT Professor Lester C. Thurow, one of the world's leading eco-nomics and business experts, is set to help lead
IESE's newest program for senior executives, "Management in the Information Age." The program will take place in Barcelona, May 31-June 5, 1998. IESE professor Josep Valor will be codirector of the new IESE-MIT Program.

"We are very excited to have such leading figures at IESE for this unique program on information technology. It is an ideal opportunity for senior managers, as well as their directors of technology, to learn from the world's best in a truly international environment," says Rory Simpson, Director of International Senior Executive Programs.

The MIT-IESE partnership brings together faculty from both schools for a week-long residential program to be held on IESE's campus. Accommodation will be provided at the nearby Juan Carlos I Hotel. The MIT Sloan School of Management, which boasts Nobel Prize winners, was recently ranked number one in information systems, R&D and manufacturing by Business Week magazine in its annual ranking of top university providers of executive education. Coupled with IESE's reputation as one of Europe's top business schools, the program promises to deliver an unprecedented learning experience in the realm of IT.
