CAREER FORUM

Job hunting season kicks off with IESE's Career Forum

Hundreds of students with high hopes and freshly printed resumes flocked to IESE's Career Forum on Oct. 26 for the chance to meet their possible future employers

Thirty-nine companies participated in this year's forum, with a record number of international firms in attendance.
In the past, the Career Forum was held in January. Since financial services, consulting and many consumer goods and services companies start recruiting before the holiday season, the MBA Career service felt that the forum would be more useful if it was held earlier in the school year.
The date of the Career Forum was not the only thing moved up! It was hard to miss the big, white marquee that was erected in the courtyard on top of the G building in IESE's Barcelona campus. In order to accommodate a greater number of companies and provide a more comfortable space for everyone involved, the location was literally moved up.
"I think that having the marquee and this space makes it better than last year", says Tom Darrell, a second-year student from Norway.
Ford Motor Company's Mandy Parke says her company comes to IESE because the students are top-notch. "We've recruited excellent people here, she says, we only come to five schools in Europe and we come to IESE because of its reputation."
Ford wasn't the only company sold on IESE's track record. "We've been coming to IESE for three years and each year we've found a couple of great people to work for us", says Sarah Worth from Goldman Sachs. She believes IESE students stand out because of their broad backgrounds and their flexibility.
Another common sentiment from companies is that they want to hire MBA graduates who speak more than one language and are willing to work in new places. "The students here have language skills they are ready to go to China or to Russia if necessary", says BASF Group's Caterina Kloos.
"I think it's really nice to get that first contact with the company", says Johan Holmberg, a first-year student from Sweden.
Companies which utilize MBA Career Services are also pleased with the results they're getting:
"MBA Career Services has always been very flexible and willing to help They really treat companies as customers", says Allied Domecq's Estelle Rivals.
"They are a very good service for companies, says Kloos. They are really interested in helping the students make contacts with the companies."
The MBA Career Service provides services to both the students and companies by organizing presentations and interviews, completing the resume book and handling all the logistical work required for a smooth job search process.
"If you really want a job, it takes so much preparation, says Kathleen Dolan, from the MBA Career Centre. That's the difference between you getting your dream job and someone from some other top school getting it."
