IESE Alumni Meeting in London
Participants in the London Meeting'99.
On June, 18th, AT Kearney's premises in London kindly wel-comed a new UK Alumni meeting.
A demonstration against capitalism and the G-7 countries which took place in the City the same Friday, caused some delay to the begining of the program (and maybe some no-shows?), but it didn't prevent 20 Alumni meet-ing with their fellows from IESE.
Professor Tony Dávila started up the meeting with a lecture on "Return on Management" (ROM), a new concept designed by him in cooperation with professors Robert Simons and Charles M. Williams from Harvard Business School. The purpose of ROM is to measure whether managers are channeling their energy into the right projects. There was an interesting discussion about the different management systems to guide strategy that this measure comes up with, and the proto-types of companies that illus-trate/represent each one of these systems.
Maria Puig, Alumni Division Director, gave an update on the recent MBA graduates (1999) and the actual students (the future MBA 2000), and also explained some news from the Alumni Association.
In that context, she pointed out the agreement that will take place next course with "The Global Workplace", an initiative from the London Business School which consists of an on-line recruiting network for alumni.
A cocktail provided by the Alumni Association was served afterwards.

Tres encuentros en Argentina


El profesor Vicente Font visitó Argentina a finales de agosto.
El profesor Juan Roure impartió una sesión en Buenos Aires.
El profesor Eduard Ballarín visitó La Pampa en julio.
La Agrupación Territorial de Argentina aprovechó la visita de tres profesores del IESE para convocar a los Antiguos Alumnos.
El 13 de julio, Ramiro Castillo (MBA 98) organizó una sesión informal alrededor del profesor Eduard Ballarín, para comentar algunos temas de actualidad local e internacional.

Días más tarde, el 3 de agosto, más de cuarenta personas acudieron a una sesión impartida por el profesor Juan Roure sobre los motores del crecimiento en las empresas medianas.

El profesor Roure insistió en la necesidad de trabajar con un talante emprendedor en la propia empresa. "El mejor entrenamiento que puedes tener para ser emprendededor es, en mi opinión, trabajar en tu empresa como si fueras emprendedor. No sirve el: "Yo trabajo en esta empresa como empleado, pero cuando quiera ser emprendedor, trabajaré distinto". Esto no funciona. Es posible que a veces tengas problemas cuando intentes ser emprendedor en tu compañía. Pero ése es el mejor entrenamiento."

El profesor Vicente Font compartió una sesión de trabajo con los Antiguos Alumnos, en la que analizó el presente y el futuro del marketing a través de Internet.
