Why Salaries Shouldn’t Be a Secret

In too many companies, payment policies are still a closely guarded secret. Nevertheless, shareholders, employees and society at large are increasingly calling for more transparent payment policies. Motivation takes more than just money, and by basing compensation on a fair professional model, companies will actually muster more enthusiasm than they could through a simple, secretive paycheck.


Executive Summary
Even though payment of employees is one of the key aspects of a business, it is generally treated superficially and with little professional care. Indeed, many companies still practice total secrecy in this area. In response to widespread, unjust compensation practices, this article calls for payment systems designed with professionalism and rigor. It examines three elements that influence individual motivation (material, professional and value elements) and explains that if you want to motivate and excite a team, you have to use weapons other than money.
