Assessing Europe’s Single Currency
The Euro in Review

If we analyze the state of the euro since its introduction in 2002, we find good news. Europeans are happy with their new coins and bills, and it seems that international trade and international reserves are increasingly using the euro as their currency of choice. While the euro´s long-term impact on the economy is still blurry, the single currency has made a strong start out of the gate.

Executive Summary
In this article, the author looks back on the development of the euro since its introduction in 2002. Overall, the euro has been a success, meeting established objectives in terms of acceptance and stability. Less clear, however, has been the currency’s impact on the economy.
