Rafael Termes – teacher, researcher, financier, friend and mountaineer – is no longer with us. His farewell has been marked by a whole host of tributes celebrating a life devoted to others, a life spent searching for the truth and defending freedom.

As he did in life, Rafael has once again succeeded in bringing together bankers, employees, union officials, journalists, economists and politicians who may not always have shared his point of view but nevertheless acknowledge his integrity and his brilliant professional career.

Our beloved Professor Rafael Termes died on 25 August in the foothills of the Madrid Sierra that he knew so well. Shortly beforehand he had been diagnosed with advanced leukemia. He was taking part in a course organized by Opus Dei at a house in Miraflores de la Sierra, surrounded by friends and receiving intense medical and spiritual care. Those who were with him say that he bore the discomfort and constraints of his illness with the good humor and superhuman forbearance for which he was well known.
